Seeing one of my old dogs suffer with arthritis I wanted to ensure that my little dogs wouldn’t suffer like Lady my lab cross.

Now we are guardians of two dachshunds and their biggest health issues is their back, as well as patella and hip dysplasia, these joint issues are a problem for a lot of breeds. For this reason I have kept their weight down with a raw balanced diet and I have also given them a supplement to help with their joints in meals. They are 10 years young and we have had no issues at all, except sometimes they eat cat poop!

You can help prevent your dogs arthritis by:

Start your dog Off with a good Raw Balanced Diet

Supplements to help bone growth and joints

Regular Vet checks

Exercise your dog on soft ground as hard services can impact their joints

Exercise your dog for their body type

Keep your dog trim and terrific

Old age is the biggest factor of arthritis but younger dogs can experience it too. It is the wear and tear and instability in joints. Other factors could be injury, breed/genetic make-up, infections, or diseases.

It can affect one or more joints like the hips, knees, shoulders and elbows.

When animals have arthritis the cartilage around the joints deteriorates and looses its lubricating properties, leading to discomfort.

If you notice any of these in your pet most likely it it arthritis:

  • No joy in walking
  • Finding it hard time climbing the stairs
  • Jumping up and down off the lounge
  • Jumping up and down off your bed
  • Limping or stiffness
  • Getting up and down from the floor
  • Getting a bit grumpy
  • Licking joints
  • They may let out a noise when they are touched in a particular area

You can help them to avoid early arthritis by:

1.If they are overweight help them loose some as the more weight they carry the inflammation irritation of joints will worsen.

2.Exercising is great but you may need to retire the old tennis ball and change it up for swimming.

Swimming will support their body weight and they can still move freely with no pressure on the joints.

3. Find an appriorate exercise for the breed of dog

4. Light walking with not only strengthen the muscles and tendons but will help circulate blood to the stiff joints.

5.Make sure they have a very warm and very well padded place to sleep.

6.Choose ramps instead of stairs where possble.

7. Raw Balanced Diet.

8.Exercise your dog on soft ground as hard surfaces can impact joints.
