Your dog has runny poo, what do you do?

Do you race off to the vet and pay $300 for them to say “ Feed them bland food, like rice and chicken for a few days”.

If you see blood in the poo or some unusual things in it, definitely take your pooch to the vet.

If their poo is just running and you can hear their belly gurgling then they have found something gross to eat or something has not agreed with them. Make sure they can get to dirt or grass as this is what they would eat naturally to help their gut.

Instead of rushing to vet try doing this first , it works.

Then after a couple of days and it hasn’t change, then go to the vet.

When your dog has runny poo you can also just simply cook them some nice fresh mashed pumpkin. Just mashed pumpkin. No milk or butter, just mashed pumpkin.

No rice .. this can also upset some dogs with allergies.

Chicken is good.. and thats great to feed them as there poo gets firmer.

Pumpkin is low in calories and it soothes and coats the digestive tract.

I have also used slippery elm powder. It is cheap, safe and a great alternative to medication. It soothes, coats and lubricates the mucus membranes, lining the digestive tract and irritated bowels and by doing this they poop less.

It also helps with bladder lining so it can help dogs suffering from cystitis.

Dosage : I have used 1/4 teaspoon per 5kg.

Mix it well with some water until thick paste, and add it to their food, in this case mashed pumpkin.

Add it to the food until their poo is slightly firm.

The underlaying issues with dogs running poo or constipation is diet and gut health.

So take a look at the food you are feeding them.

Tin food, dog roll and dog biscuits. This isn’t considered healthy, nutritional food for dogs.

A raw diet is great. (Ask me about the ebook)

Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese is an awesome pro biotic to add to your dogs food every day to restore good gut health.

Pumpkin also works for constipation. (but this also maybe a blockage of toys, rubber or bones. So use common sense.)
